Kai Cenat and Elden Ring: The Key to Marathon Stream Success

Kai Cenat has been on a roll lately. Thanks to big-name collaborations with celebrities from other spheres of entertainment and high airtimes full of Variety content, Kai Cenat has found himself rocketing up the top streamer rankings, currently sitting in 3rd place for April 2024. On the 6th of May, Kai Cenat solidified his live streaming legacy by achieving 10M followers on Twitch – a feat achieved by only a handful of streamers including xQc and shroud.

A key part of Kai Cenat’s success can be attributed to his marathon gaming streams, putting in dozens of hours back-to-back to smash through games. His most recent marathon is Elden Ring, the FromSoftware title that continues to thrive on live-streaming platforms even two years after release. Kai Cenat’s marathon streams are captivating audiences, providing a wholesome alternative to some of his more controversial IRL content.

With Kai Cenat set to defeat the final boss of Elden Ring’s main story, it’s time to look at how well these streams have performed and the success of Kai Cenat’s other marathon streams.

Kai Cenat’s Commitment to 150+ Hour Elden Ring Marathon Pays Off

Having well and truly crossed the 100-hour benchmark he set himself, Kai Cenat’s Elden Ring marathon event has been a roaring success. After five days of streaming, Kai Cenat sits at 13.3M hours watched across his Elden Ring streams. Viewership peaked at 221K as Kai Cenat took on Malenia – notorious for being the game’s most difficult fight. But his chat has been loyal throughout the event, with chat participation sitting at 10.5% and close to 4.5M messages being sent.

Kai Cenat achieved this incredible response through heavy promotion. In April, Kai Cenat announced he would be completing the Elden Ring just as he finished his 48+ hour Ghost of Tsushima stream. He then released a professionally shot trailer for the event reminiscent of the tongue-in-cheek humor of an early 2010’s TV ad. Even during the event, Kai Cenat accepted a massive $100,000 bet from AdinRoss which drew in even more fans.

Kai Cenat’s Marathon Stream Strategy Maintains Momentum

As mentioned, this is not the first of Kai Cenat’s marathon streams. Ever since his massive month-long “Mafiathon” sub-a-thon event back in February of 2023, Kai Cenat has pushed his endurance in performing over marathon streams. As the most recent iteration, Elden Ring is Kai Cenat’s best-performing marathon stream so far with an average minute viewership (AMA) of 91K. The recent Red Dead Redemption 2 and Ghost of Tsushima marathon streams also performed admirably with AMAs of 64K and 41K, respectively.

The Mafiathon pulled in by far the greatest number of hours watched, however, at 46M. Keep in mind that this was spread across a full 30 days of Variety content outside of gaming, no doubt making the event far more effort to organize and execute. In this sense, the gaming-focused marathon streams seem more efficient in attracting viewers over condensed time periods. Kai Cenat’s jail stream did hook in viewers though in a more sensational way, taking the second spot with an AMA of 77K

It remains to be seen if Kai Cenat will pursue more marathon streams in the future, or whether this Elden Ring hype will have left audiences burned out. If only due to creative exhaustion, Kai Cenat will likely switch back to IRL content to maintain his status as a variety streamer. Stream Hatchet will continue watching, however, if Kai Cenat chooses to do more marathon streams in the future.
